Marc Prensky, who coined the phrase, digital natives, has said "Today's students are no longer the people our educational system was designed to teach."
It is our goal
to provide teachers with the tools necessary to help the elementary student learn in new ways
to provide students with resources to reinforce their learning
to provide resources in the core content areas [i.e.Language Arts (reading/spelling/writing), Mathematics, and Science]
We will attempt to compile resources in the form of
online games/activities for the children to participate in
websites for teachers that provide lesson plans/ideas about using technology with young students
links to organizations with similar goals
The members of our CEP 812 discussion group are all early elementary educators, so our emphasis will be on finding resources to use with this age group (i.e. kindergarten through second grade).
I (Janie) will be looking for interactive games and activities to support instruction in the area of Language Arts; Tara will be looking for interactive games and activities to support instruction in Mathematics; Kailey will be looking for interactive games and activities to support instruction in Science.
Learning to use new technologies is sometimes a challenge, and requires stepping outside of our comfort zones.
If we can be like Bert in this video, we can learn to incorporate new technologies into our familiar teaching.
